COLOMBIA – Mercosur Visa Suspended for Chilean Nationals
Effective immediately, the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will no longer grant migrant visas to Chilean nationals on the basis of the Mercosur Agreement. This is understood to be a reciprocal measure, as Chile does not allow Colombian nationals to obtain residence on the basis of the Mercosur Agreement.
Nationals of Chile who hold a valid Mercosur migrant visa can remain in Colombia while their current immigration status is valid. If they wish to remain in Colombia beyond this, however, they should apply for the appropriate visa before this status expires.
Chilean nationals who have submitted a Mercosur visa application which is pending, or who are intending to do so, must consider alternative visa options.
Employers who may be affected are encouraged to contact their immigration specialist for case-specific advice.
